Brief

Operation Iraqi Freedom

Thesis: Although many disagree with President George W. Bush and top military leaders, the United States’ presence in Iraq is important for Iraqi security and world-wide security.

Audience: Americans in general, but mainly those who believe that Americans have no business meddling in Iraqi affairs, and believe that the soldiers there are fighting for a lost and nonexistent cause.

Evidence:

On March 20, 2003 the United States Army, along with several other coalition forces such as the U.K. and armies from smaller countries such as Australia and Poland, invaded Iraq. The main reason for the invasion given by President Bush was that Saddam Hussein and his Iraqi government were storing and actively making Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). If this were true, Saddam Hussein would be violating an agreement put into place in 1991. United States top officials believed that Saddam Hussein and his army posed an imminent and urgent threat to the United States and its allies. They also believed that Iraq was working closely with al-Qaeda and aiding terrorists who were planning to make attacks on America and its allies.

When a search was conducted in Iraq by U.N. inspectors no Weapons of Mass Destruction were found, but officials believed that as soon as sanctions were lifted off of Iraq, they would jump on the chance to resume production of WMD’s. Although no WMD’s were found, forces remained in Iraq for the following reasons: Iraq’s financial support for Palestinian suicide bombers and their families, Iraqi government human rights abuses, spreading democracy, and taking control of Iraqi oil reserves.

You have done a good job of getting your thesis across in that you feel like the war in Iraq is a necessary evil.
But also I think you should research more because plenty of opinion changing facts about the war have happened since the beginning of the war and perhaps those should also be adressed.

I like your topic and definitely agree with our troops staying in Iraq. There a lot more points though that you could bring up such as 9/11, supporting our troops over there now and how people here bring down their morale, the positive things we are doing over there, how the Iraqi people feel about us being there, and what would happen if we were to pull out now. There are so many things you could tie into this argument. I like that you brought up the main reason we went over there because a lot of people do not know that, and it was a good starting point.

To be honest I do agree with the argument you're giving but after so much research and discoveries of the truth. I have just found that most of what you are arguing for is what the government was feeding the Americans in the beginning of the war to hide us from the truth. Still the fact remains your evidence is strong and concrete and it supports why "they" say we're there.

good brief and i support your argument, be sure to have an answer for any rebuttal your opposition may make against your case.

Step 4:
To add on what I said earlier I believe the evidence you have shown is good but it only supports what the government was saying in the beginning. There are still things you have not brought to light like the death toll and how high it was and still the government wants to send more soldiers in Iraq. Or the fact that President Bush said it himself that we didn't go looking for Saddam Hussein after the actual invasion. But in the beginning Saddam Hussein was painted up as this horrible figure that we just had to take down from power. And then there is the big issue of oil and how the U.S is there for that and that alone.
